Ria Formosa Rooftop Restaurant

Ria Formosa Rooftop @ Hotel Faro

Rooftop Restaurant in Faro

Ria Formosa is a fantastic rooftop restaurant in Faro named after the national park in Faro.

Situated on the fourth floor of Hotel Faro, Ria Formosa offers a gorgeous, modern restaurant for dining inside or outside. We chose to dine al fresco, which was not a problem in November given they have heated lamps. Ria Formosa offers lovely views of the glistening marina creating a really beautiful setting.

The Cosmopolitan Bar, part of Ria Formosa, makes the most amazing cocktails which you can sit and enjoy them on high bar stools in the restaurant or outside on comfortable sofas. For more information on these cocktails see my separate review of bars in Faro here.

The Food

We tried the five course tasting menu for €45 per person, with an additional €15 for wine pairing, I thought this was great value for the setting and the quality of the food.

As each dish arrived, we were given an explanation of the food which made us appreciate each dish more. We started with some bread with lemon and garlic butter and the appetizer of the day – an Amuse Bouche with egg and cod foam.

Following that were some beautiful Scallops with Cauliflower and Black Pork. The flavour was fantastic and I surprisingly really enjoyed the cauliflower mash. Paired with this dish was the Chardonnay Branco Al Ria from the Algarve – light and fresh.

More dishes!

Then it really started getting interesting. We had Monkfish inside a potato with confit tomato and vanilla. Being more of a meat eater myself, I was delighted how much I enjoyed the dish and the sauce was gorgeous. We even had a small top up of wine for this course, which was really sweet.

The fourth course at Ria Formosa was the Piglet, Potatoes with Aioli and Orange – my joint favourite dish with the monkfish. The piglet was flavoursome, succulent and wentwell with the potatoes and orange. Paired with this dish was the Quinta da Fata Reserva Red, which was medium bodied.

The Exotic Fruit Cheesecake with Coconut Ice Cream was absolutely stunning. It melted in my mouth and burst with flavour. This was paired with a dessert wine Colheita Tadria, which was a good accompaniment.

Overall

We had such a wonderful dining experience at Ria Formosa rooftop restaurant in Faro. The food was excellent, the service was friendly and attentive and the setting was beautiful. The Cosmopolitan Bar is also absolutely amazing so check out my separate review!
