Sarikantang Hotel in Koh Phangan

Sarikantang Hotel in Koh Phangan

When looking for a hotel in Koh Phangan, I was surprised at how spread out the island was. There are a few stunning resorts secluded in the north east and west of the island but they were too far from the main sights and amenities.

We found, Sarikantang, a gorgeous hotel located 5 minutes from Haad Rin beach. It was located on a private beach which, as they describe, really did feel like a home away from home.

The journey from Thong Sala Pier (where the ferry from Surat Thani dropped us) took us around half an hour in a taxi.  Sarikantang was ideally located a 10 minute walk to the beach (which is well lit but take a torch just in case) but secluded enough that it was quiet during the day and night.

We stayed in a pool access room which was a decent size with a large comfortable bed, mini bar and snacks. The bathroom was spacious with a bath and shower, as well as complimentary toiletries.

Pool Access

The pool access and the outside area was just amazing. To sunbathe by the pool we just crossed over the pool from our room and just kept swimming across to access our room through the back door to get anything that we have forgotten or to top up our water!  There are 5 pool access rooms in the complex and 5 upper floors with pool views. There are a number of other rooms available including a beachfront villa which looked beautiful. We loved the pool access – there is nothing better than an early morning dip in the pool.

Breakfast

Breakfast is served in the restaurant area between 7 and 10 a.m where there are number of tables outside overlooking the beach. It was definitely one of the most beautiful breakfast settings I have had! Breakfast consisted of a variety of items including pastries, toast, pancakes, waffles, bacon, sausage, fruit and yogurt, as well as an egg station where you can get fried eggs, scrambled eggs and omelettes. This was a great way to start the day!

Spa, Gym and Yoga

There is a spa on site which offers aromatherapy massages and typical Thai massages. We had an AMAZING hot coconut oil massage between 6 and 7 p.m. watching the sunset. It was an amazing experience and definitely something that I  recommend during your visit. It was great value at 650 baht and one of the best massages I have had.

We also booked on to a yoga class on the beach for 90 minutes which was 200 baht per person, which was fantastic (just wear deet as the mosquitos come out to get you!). Lastly, there is a gym on site which was surprisingly quite popular!

Lunch treats!

We had lunch at Sarikantang a couple of times – the menu is extensive serving a selection of Thai and western food. We had the Subway sandwich with chicken bacon and ham, the steak sandwich with caramelized onions, the big burger and a chicken schnitzel with fries, which were all tasty.  The smoothies they offer are fresh and tasty and definitely have the Oreo shake as a cheeky treat.

Full Moon Dinner

Our stay included a 3 course compulsory full moon dinner at Sarikantang. The appetizers  included chicken and beef satay, sushi, vegetable spring rolls and crispy golden cups and mains were massaman curry, fried beef black pepper, fried chicken with cashew and fried vegetable oyster sauce.

The food was buffet style so you could as many helpings as you wanted which is a sensible idea with the full moon party! Sarikantang also had a selection of fruit, brownies and butter cake for dessert. The staff were also on hand with fluorescent paint to help you get full moon party ready!

Our stay at Sarikantang hotel in Koh Phangan was lovely and I would definitely recommend a stay there. The staff were very helpful throughout the stay (especially Leo) and helped organise massages, weekend trips and  taxis, which just added to the experience.
