Bar in King’s Cross
Set in the trendy Standard Hotel, Double Standard is the perfect bar in King’s Cross for chilled out drinking and dining. We popped in one evening to try some bites and tipples.
Interiors tick the stylish boxes with the retro style fixtures evident as you step in and furniture that is perfect for sinking into for a while.
The cocktail list has a few creative additions to the traditional offerings. There are also pitchers available, perfect for group get togethers. We tried the G & Tea (£9), Tanqueray London dry gin flash fused with earl grey tea, Mediterranean tonic and pink grapefruit. We also opted for the Red Grape Summer Tea Punch (£11) with Ketel One vodka, strawberry, grape, apple, vanilla & Early Grey foam. Both were served tall, light and refreshing to the taste and the earl grey lovely, fragrant and summery.
The Food Menu
The menu is made up of small and large plates as well as boards for sharing. It is casual enough for a quick bite or a larger meal. You can also share dishes tapas style.
We tried the Crispy whitebait with a lovely sharp horseradish mayo (£6) and the Padron peppers (£6) with sea salt which had a nice kick of spice. Perfect little plates for nibbling on with our drinks.
We tried the Mac n cheese with truffle and toasted breadcrumbs (£12). Lovely cheesy comfort food at its best, the truffle oil was generous and we enjoyed the texture of the breadcrumbs.
The desserts are an all in comfort affair at the Double Standard. We opted for the ice cream snickerdoodle (£7) – a lovely disc of ice cream with caramel centre sandwiched between two pleasantly chewy cookies. Our next option was the bread and butter pudding (£7) bites which were a serious game changer. Baked with a base of brioche meant these babies were utterly soft in the middle, melt in the mouth and had delicious crisp edges. They had a lovely drizzle of custard and raisins on top which added gorgeous texture and really hit the spot – a must try.
The Double Standard bar in King’s Cross is a great spot for a catch up drink with friends and grabbing a relaxed bite. They also host fab quizzes here regularly so a real all rounder of a bar that we will happily head back to for a tipple.
