The Empress is a lovely gastro pub in Victoria Park Village with a cosy feel and friendly staff.
The menu tends to change on a weekly basis but they keep it simple with 5/6 dishes on offer. For starters, we chose the Parmesan fritters and the spicy cod and salmon fritters – both flavoursome.
For mains we opted for the lamb and the cote de bouef for two with chunky chips, spinach and béarnaise sauce which were both filling and tasty. Expect good quality but be prepared to pay a little more than you would do at a typical pub.
Also, keep an eye out for the restaurant’s special deals on a Monday and Tuesday – on Monday, you can have a main course (they seem to change on the website every week or two) and a glass of fizz or a pint for only £10 and on a Tuesday evening, they offer BYOB from Bottle Apostle across the road for no corkage fee.
I would like to return to The Empress for their weekend brunch which includes bacon and pancakes (yummy!).
