Gastropub in Barbican
The Jugged Hare is a gastropub in Barbican with a menu featuring seasonal British ingredients highlighting game, foraging and wild food. It has a fancier gastropub feel but is very welcoming.

The menu changes regularly. When we visited there were eight starters ranging from a charred sweetcorn and yellow pepper gazpacho to hertfordshire snails with garlic and parsley butter, alongside charcuterie options, oysters and bar snacks. We tried:
- The fennel seed salami charcuterie. The flavoursome charcuterie was made in-house from selected rare British breeds and served with Niamh’s flatbreads.
- The burrata – so fresh and creamy with juicy heritage tomatoes, endives, parsley sauce and toasted nuts.

There were seven main options, from the classic fish and chips through to a confit duck leg & ham hock stew. The Jugged Hare also offers four different types of steak and a sharing rib of beef. We tried:
- The Torbay Skate Wing which is a must-try/ It’s delicate and absolutely delicious with wilted spring greens and a creamy lemon & caper butter sauce.
- The chorizo stuffed guinea fowl leg. Succulent and full-flavoured, alongside creamy garlic mashed potatoes, broccoli and aioli

There are four desserts – which you should save space for, alongside a cheeseboard if you’re more of a savoury person. The dark chocolate tart was rich and smooth, served with juicy fresh fruit – a great finish to a fantastic meal.

Alongside the food menu they have an extensive wine list. We were recommended the Hunter’s Sauvignon Blanc which was smooth, floral and light.
The team on hand were also attentive, helpful and so friendly (Vicky was so lovely!). We really enjoyed our whole meal at The Jugged Hare gastropub in Barbican. It’s great escape from the busy city at the weekend.
