Beautiful Vineyard in Rye
If you love wine, Tillingham is an excellent vineyard in Rye, situated just a 10 minute drive from the centre. The vineyard is set within 70 acres of rolling hills and woodlands with views of Tillingham River valley, Rye, the Romney salt marshes and beyond. Dating back to the 13th century, the mixed farm is home to vineyards, fruit trees, ancient woodland and livestock.
Open Wednesday to Sunday, you can visit for pizza in the outdoor Dutch Barn and a la carte lunch or a set dinner in the restaurant. They also have eleven rooms, in what was formerly a hop barn, for overnight stays.
The Dutch Barn is a great covered outdoor area with some seating on large bean bags which we loved. There are several wines available by the glass or bottle including Tillingham Col Fizz (a real treat!) and a white and red selection. A selection of sourdough pizza are cooked fresh in the oven within the barn. The Margarita and Beal’s Farm Chorizio, Basil and Parmesan were incredible.
We had more wine in the outdoor bar through the shop, which has gorgeous views of the vineyard . There are a few outdoor tables and more seating indoors.
Unfortunately, we didn’t have time for a tour but they run every Wednesday-Sunday and last around 90 minutes. Tours cost £35 per person with available time slots at 11, 2, 4 and 6 which includes a taste of four wines.
