Japanese Izakaya in Shoreditch
I’ve been lucky enough to visit izakaya’s in Tokyo and absolutely loved them! Apothecary is a fantastic Japanese izakaya in Shoreditch serving an awesome selection of Japanese inspired small plates and drinks in a bright, airy and relaxed environment. We loved the food and the service was brilliant too – a real slick operation.
Japanese inspired drinks and snacks
Apothecary offers a selection of sake, cocktails, beer and wine. Cocktail wise, we absolutely loved the Rhubarb Sbagliato: rhubarb shaken with bitters, umami liqueur, rose and topped with fizz. Accompanying our aperitifs were lotus root crips and edamame with salt which were so moreish.
Japanese small plates
The menu is split into Hirata Buns, Sushi Rolls, Robata Grill, Raw, Tempura & Fried and Sides with plenty to choose from and share with the table.
We had the following dishes:
- Teriyaki Chicken Thigh Yakitori
- Spiced Duck Breast
- Blackened Salmon
- Grilled cauliflower, black sesame
- Smokey tenderstem broccoli
- Crispy prawn tempura
- Japanese fried chicken
- Miso glazed aubergine
- Furikake rice
Prices start from £3.60 and increase to around £15 for the beef fillet and spicy tuna dragon sushi rolls. Our selection of dishes averaged out at around £5 per dish which we thought was great value given the quality. The must orders are the cauliflower (so good with the sesame), the prawn tempura (such a light batter), the blackened salmon (cooked low and slow) and the chicken yakitori (so moist and tender).
We highly recommend a visit to Apothecary East for delicious food and fantastic service. Oh, and make sure you try the black sesame and miso caramel ice cream – the combo works!
