Cafe on Roman Road
Mae + Harvey is a cafe on Roman Road founded by Natasha Mae Sayliss. Her venture started in 2014 when she created seasonal cold pressed juices and nut milks using ingredients from her local greengrocer, JD Harvey. Combining her middle name with the greengrocer’s name, Natasha founded Mae + Harvey.
The cafe sits on the corner of the stretch of Roman Road that doesn’t have the market with a navy blue exterior and white lettering. It has certainly become popular with the locals with queues forming at the weekends. Luckily, Mae + Harvey is in the middle of expanding into the premises next door, creating more space for customers!
I visited when the country was on lockdown and Mae + Harvey were operating on a take away basis only. The Homemade Granola yogurt with blueberry compote (£5) was seriously impressive. It had sprigs of mint and cinnamon which complimented the sweeter blueberry compote. The Roast Chicken sourdough sandwich with herbs, paprika, mayo, chilli jam and pickled cucumber (£7) was tasty. The bread was light and ‘bouncy’ and the combination of ingredients worked well.
I can’t wait to return to this lovely cafe and tuck into their buttermilk pancakes!
