Hotel in Mykonos: Hermes Mykonos
Mykonos is not a large island but can be difficult to travel around by foot and taxis are rare and expensive! We stayed in Hermes Hotel in Mykonos, a 4 star hotel situated a 10 minute walk from the town. It is conveniently also only a few minutes from the airport.
We were greeted at the airport by a complimentary transfer. Upon arrival we were impressed with the gorgeous whitewash of the hotel – so traditionally Greek and perfect. We were given a map of the island and directions to various attractions and tips for local restaurants and bars. Hermes has a beautiful and large reception and lounge area – you just have to have a picture in the swinging chairs!
We had a deluxe room with a sea view which was bright and spacious. The walk in shower was lovely and there were complimentary toiletries available including shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion. There was also more than ample storage in the wardrobe for clothes.
The double bed (split into two twins) was spacious and very comfortable! We also had access to Netflix on the large screen which was great if you wanted an earlier night. The balcony and view was something special. We watched the sun set most nights which was amazing!
Breakfast was served between 8 and 11 every morning allowing for much needed lie-in’s! You can choose between the lovely breakfast room or the veranda to sit and enjoy the morning.
The best bit about the breakfast is that you can order from an a la carte menu. The choices range from scrambled eggs to shahshuka eggs with local sausage trimmings with sides including baked mushrooms, crispy bacon and glazed cherry tomatoes. All of these dishes are made fresh to order which is a real treat!
There is also a huge variety of buffet options including croissants, waffles, cereals, fruits, meats, cheeses and cakes! I could not fault the breakfast in the slightest – one of the best I have had abroad. Oh and the juices (orange, pineapple and vitamin) are served in really cute jars.
The pool area was another huge plus point for me! As the hotel is situated up from town, the views are fantastic. We loved gazing over the island every day from our comfortable sun loungers which had cushions for your head. They play chilled music and have a bar area for drinks and light bites.
The local beers are priced at a very reasonable €3.50 with wine around €8 and cocktails from €10. The food menu has a number of dishes including rocket and parmesan salad with grilled chicken (€15) and tortilla gyros (€11). It was lovely to eat these by the poolside and not leave the hotel!
The final stand out point for us was the friendliness of the staff. The guys around the pool could have a joke with us, the reception was always helpful and the cleaners were always so bright and cheerful.
We would absolutely recommend booking into Hermes Hotel in Mykonos. It has a great location, fantastic staff and awesome views. We paid £110 per night in October but imagine it is more in high season!
